Blog Gripe

Before I begin my gripe, I would like to post a disclaimer. I love my family and friends, each and every one. DNA related or not.

I hate music on blogs. I do. I happily check all my favorite blogs several times a day. I know this makes me a freak stalker but I enjoy keeping up and blogs are the safest internet surfing I know. At least the blogs I visit are. But when I click on a favorite blog and all of a sudden music is blasting at me, loud music, most of which I don't recognize because a. it is country or b. it is current, I get edgy. I hurrily click Fn-End which is my quickie mute button.

Can anyone explain to me the reason music is on blogs? If you want to declare what your favorite songs are, you could post a link for anyone that is interested. Or you could just make a list so that we can read it and go, Oh, nice pick, I like that too. Or, What the heck song is that?

Plus, when a video is posted then I have TWO audio sound bytes blasting my ear off in unison. This was of course before I realized music would be playing on the blog and the video downloaded the same time as the music.

I will probably end up getting some very upset responses to this blog entry, but I really would like to hear the reasoning behind the blog music. I know there are those that will disagree with me and I am way fine with that. Because when all is said and done, I will still read your blogs because I LOVE reading your blogs. So, keep the music on, don't change the way you live your blog life on my account.

This is me minus the tongue ring and the immodest shirt.

I prefer loud music in cars. I blast that baby, especially when I am alone. I am sure I make quite a pretty picture for all other cars driving by as I sing along, in muted fashion to those around me, to KT Tunstal's Suddenly I See. I also enjoy other classic artist such as Neil Diamond. I don't care what people say about his sing/speak way of interpreting his art, but I love that man. SWEET CAROLINE, bum, bum, bum. Good Times never seemed so good. SO GOOD, SO GOOD! I have my father to thank for my Neil-love. I really dig the Nottinghill soundtrack, though I don't own it. (Hint for Harold: This would make a great gift!) I have never really been a go out and buy a CD kinda person. The new iTunes is the way to go in my opinion, pay for the songs you like and only the songs you like instead of an entire album (saying album dates me, I know it does) of artsy fartsy, keep the producer or artist happy crap. I just want the 2 or 3 songs and I'm out.

I also blast the music when it is just me and the kids. The kids love it. Harold on the other hand doesn't always agree with my music choices so sometimes when I choose to do this in the car and he is in there, I get this pursed lip look as he tries to ignore my singing (yelling) at the top of my lungs to songs by Neil or others. Has anyone else seen this look? It's funny. Especially when I am the cause.

So I don't know if you remember or not, but I used to have music on my blog and then I started feeling like you do and took it off. I hated going to a blog and all of sudden, music is blaring, I'm confused, trying to figure out how to turn the dumb thing off. So... even though I don't have a response for you, I agree. Put a link to your favorite music on the side or something. You could call it, "What I'm listening to this week".

You will probably enjoy this article:

Sorry, the link is long. It is my friend's brother and he is ranting about music on blogs. I thought it was kind of funny. You have to understand that the kid is extremely opinionated so take what he says lightly!
I must agree, I don't love music on blogs. Sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised when a song I like comes up, but usually it startles me and I am scrambling to turn it off.

Ok, so I realized the link doesn't work. Sorry...you'll have to take my word for it that you are definitely not the only one who doesn't love music on blogs.

I'm not a big fan either, as you know there is no music on my blog. Many of my family members do have it and I immediately turn it off as well. The video with music thing is especially annoying, but I have become better about it since I learned how to turn the music off. I agree with you and I have thought about doing a post on it as well. I guess all I really have to say is AMEN.

So...I've seen music on blogs but, I've never heard it. I have wondered if it played or just was a list of music that person likes.

I mostly read my favorite blogs during down time at work and NOBODY has a sound card in their computer at work...so no music. I guess no sound card is a blessing after all.

Plus, I can't read while music is playing so if you are going to someone's blog to read it...why would you want their music playing? You wouldn't...it makes no sense.

I tried it at Christmas, but I decided that I didn't like it either so I removed it. Since I often read blogs on my lunch hour at work, I always have to mute things so that I don't invite all of my co-workers to share in the music tastes of my friends and family.

However, I am with you on the car singing. I have a 40 minute commute 1 way and so I blast my music in the car and sing my heart out. It really is the only way to enjoy a car ride. I am right with you on the Neil Diamond love!!! I too have your Dad and my Mom to thank for that!

we have music on our blog. i think having a music player on the sidebar is less pretentious then having a post dedicated to music. you know, "i am cool because i am listening to this music". having it on the sidebar is more subtle. (that is if your fellow bloggers choose the option to have it turned off when guests visit their sites. i know we didn't do that at first and you were blared with "c is for cookie", but we fixed it). you should just tell your friends to choose the "off" option when setting it up so you have to freedom to listen to it if you choose... or just always have your speakers off. that's what i do. then i never know the difference. sorry you hate music so much... :) just kidding. i'm with you, loud music in the car is great!

Thank you so much for addressing this problem. I too am a disliker of the blog music. I go to blogs to read them, not to listen to music I didn't pick. If I wanted to spend my life listening to music I didn't pick I would have married that Matt guy.... Oh, wait, I did, but I still don't like blog music.

LOL. True story...before I read your anti-music post I went to my blog and went......"this has got to go." And so I totally removed my music. Then I read your post and about died laughing. So funny.

hhmmmm... I as you know have blog music. And all of you that don't like blog music don't have to visit my blog. this blog is supposed to be for me, for my family and to update you on what's going on in my life. Well.. i like these songs so I choose to give my readers some entertainment value besides just reading my boring blog. If you don't want to listen to it there is a pause button. No.. I'm not mad at you Jeanna, I just simply won't change my blog because other people don't like it. (just like what you said NOT to do) I have never been a follow the crown type of person. If something is "in" and I don't like it you won't find me buying it. And if I like something (such as my world peace shirt that Justin hates!!) You will find me wearing it because I like it! So.. Long story short.. I like it.. so it stays!

following the "crowd" NOT CROWN!! HEHE.. :)

Well, Jeanna, you were right - this blog really brought on the comments. I don't have a comment but am going to share a true confession not generally known: I saw the Neil Diamond movie, "The Jazz Singer" approx 30 times in the year following it's release.

Plus, I heard a line just recently about Neil Diamond: There are two kinds of people in the world, those that LOVE him and those that HATE him and they're usually in the process of getting divorced.
